The Residence

The Reception Concept

Casa Diva is a historic manor house in Matera, located on the border between the Civita, the noble core of the Sassi, and the city’s historic center. Precisely because of this elegant building’s central position within the city’s urban and, above all, social fabric, the Divella family decided—with the collaborative work of a team of design, graphic design, and communications professionals, coordinated by architect Mattia Antonio Acito—to celebrate within it the untold stories that, over the decades, have perpetuated, through their events and personalities, the uniqueness of the Matera community.

Portraits of real people who lived in Matera.

Casa Diva is the ideal piazza, the place where anecdotes and personalities blend to tell the story of a Matera you won’t find in books, or in guidebooks, a city that has managed to survive unchanged by the changing world and shape the world in its own image and likeness, becoming—for this reason too—the 2019 European Capital of Culture.

You will thus encounter the stories of those who have turned their humility into wealth, their tireless work and entrepreneurial intuition into a model of growth, their life into a message of extreme love, their private dream of an equal society into a collective claim, their good humor into a jocular reading of ironic fate, and their art into a poetic interpretation of a difficult yet, at the same time, fulfilling reality.

Our Reception Model.

Casa Diva opens its doors to guests, offering a stay based on the concept of “experiential tourism.” This begins with its rooms, which, in every corner of the building, surprisingly tell a different story of Matera’s ancient and even recent past, yet with a contemporary and innovative approach, also making use of common technologies, such as QR codes.

But from Casa Diva, guests can also choose from a variety of options for visiting Matera (and its surroundings), going beyond the usual sightseeing circuits, transforming from a tourist into a temporary and cultural resident, coming into contact with the real city, as told by its citizens, in unusual places and moments.

Characteristic environments for leisure and relaxation.

Casa Diva also offers its guests several common areas. These range from the spacious rooms on the ground floor, where breakfast is served each morning, which offer corners for reading, relaxing, and socializing, equipped with radio. The mezzanine features a cinema room, a cozy space celebrating Matera’s fruitful relationship with the seventh art, where guests can watch documentaries on the city’s history and the silver screen sequences that have helped make it world-famous.

Finally, in the upper part of the building, there is a shared panoramic terrace, also used as a solarium in the summer months, from which, at any time of day, you can enjoy a suggestive view of the Sassi, a World Heritage Site, and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches of the Murgia Materana.
